I've always been a big fan of music and with traveling comes a lot of time alone, wandering, and listening to tunes to please the mind. Here you'll find some of the different music I've been listening to along the way, both favorites of mine from back home that made up my playlist before I left, and also new music from countries around the world. Maybe someday I'll learn to play some of these myself.
January 26th - One of my favorite bands of all time has finally released new music for the first time in about 4 years! Enjoy!
January 12th - An awesome song all-around, not just for traveling! Hoping to have a lot of stories from my travels that I'll be able to share until I'm old as well. Heard an amazing remix in Cambodia that I'll post a bit later!
December 28th, 2015 - An older British band recommended to me by a travel friend, FOALS is a bit reminiscent of some of the bands I used to listen to a few years back. Bringing back some memories!
December 14th, 2015 - The ultimate relaxation song. Throw this one on during a long bus ride, train ride work, Sunday morning coffee time, or as background music reading a book. I've been moving around a lot lately this one has been helping me get some ZZZs along the way.
November 30th, 2015 - It's impossible to listen to this song and not want to grab a cup of coffee and a book and relax for a little while. Heard this song in a coffee shop in Pai, Thailand, one of my favorite destinations so far. The town, though full of backpackers and a bit busy now, has the most relaxed atmosphere of anywhere I've been, where a typical day is spent sipping coffee at a cafe in the morning, exploring caves or waterfalls around the town, and walking the night market in the evening, conversing with the locals and buying their handmade goods!
November 17th, 2015 - Always a fan of Mighty Oaks! The first song I post on here (Brother) is one of my favorites, and I used it in my North America Road Trip video that you can check out here! They've got some of the best music to listen to while traveling. Chilled out, catchy beats, and all-around entertaining.
November 3rd, 2015 - This song was passed along to me by a fellow traveler and friend I met in Bangkok! I can't take credit for finding it unfortunately, but she recommended it after seeing my Traveling Tunes page on the blog! Thanks, Kyoko! You've got great taste in tunes!
October 20th, 2015 - Came across this song during my Ben Howard binge and it kept me company during my 2 weeks in Croatia and week in Slovenia. Awesome!
October 6th, 2015 - I've been spending too much time on the beach as of late, so this song is a bit reminiscent of that. Croatia has been absolutely incredible with it being the off season (quieter, fewer tourists, and moderate temperatures), and I've been listening to mostly Indie/Indie-Folk compilations recently on YouTube. Came across this one by Dustin Tebbutt and its been great for chilling by the water, ferry rides from island to island, and bus rides up along the coast.
September 29th, 2015 - Not sure how it took me so long to discover Ben Howard, but the man is a musical genius. Yes, I realize this song is old and has a TON of views. That doesn't take away from it, though. I heard this song in the lobby at my hostel in Prague, and now I can't stop listening to all of his stuff. Especially for traveling, his lyrics are ideal and his melodies incredibly relaxing. I'm about to head to Croatia and I think this will be the perfect type of music for some island listening. Look up and research some of the YouTube playlists out there as well. Phenomenal.
September 15th, 2015 - This particular video was actually one that I pulled from another traveler who does some epic compilations. The song in the background fits it perfectly, so I'm plugging both videos into this post. If you thought my travel videos were cool (ok, maybe you didn't but you told me they were just so I felt good...thanks!), then you'll really be impressed with this guy's. Enjoy!
September 1st, 2015 - This song was part of an epic laser light show in Warsaw, and it gets me pumped up every time I hear it. Even though it's more of a dance electronic song, it's motivating for traveling, too, and makes me want to get out and explore some more! This week I head to Denmark for a bit before heading to the Eastern Block in Europe for two more weeks! Motivation enough, I guess!
August 18th, 2015 - Happy Tuesday from the road! I'm currently in the midst of traveling from Amsterdam to Warsaw via Berlin on bus, and am obviously listening to a lot of music during my 18 hours of bus time. Before leaving for abroad I was obsessively into alternative music, but since being in Europe, I've found some real enjoyment from more electronic music then I ever though possible. Here's a great tune I heard while out in Amsterdam and I felt I needed to share. It's very mellow and easy to listen to, so if you're not an electronic fan, here's a quick taste for you to wet your appetite.
August 4th, 2015 - Happy Tuesday from Birmingham, England, everyone! First Traveling Tunes from abroad here so I figured I'd add in one that I picked up while in Iceland. This is not an Icelandic artist, unfortunately, but good nonetheless. Hearing it now makes me think about my road trip around the southern rim of Iceland with new friends I met along the way. Enjoy!
July 21st, 2015 - For some Tuesday motivation, here's the song (and movie) that made me want to go to Iceland. This song is perfectly placed within the movie and overlays some unreal scenery. If you haven't seen Walter Mitty yet, go watch it now...then come join me in Iceland (I leave Thursday the 23rd)!
July 7th, 2015 - A song that's been getting a lot of attention on Alt Nation on Sirius XM, 2 Heads will be stuck in your head for hours after you listen to it. Mesmerizing! There's a great remix for it as well here. Great tune!
June 23rd, 2015 - This song's a few months old, but Hippo Campus' new video is finally out. Love this song!
June 9th, 2015 - This song may or may not make an appearance in a video I'm putting together for my North America road trip. Seriously one of the best songs I've heard for driving, traveling, and adventuring. Great lyrics! Great song!
May 26th, 2015 - A little bit more upbeat than some previous songs, Long Way Down has a great beat for driving (I've been doing a lot of that recently). Sounds like it should be a song in a movie during opening credits.
May 12th, 2015 - The song has been out for a while, but the music video has now been released! Another amazing song by Of Monsters and Men. Can't wait to see Iceland in July. Maybe I'll run into them out in Reykjavik.
April 28th, 2015 - One of my all time favorite travel songs, Ain't Gonna Die While Sitting Down is pure travel poetry. I never get sick of listening to it.
April 14th, 2015 - Take Me to Church is Hozier's most popular song, but this song is a lot better for relaxing I think. Mellow and vocally flawless, this was one of the first songs I added to my travel playlist.
